Recent Changes

Payment of Wages - July 2010
New Jersey has updated the Payment of Wages notice by adding the following paragraph to the All Employees Shall section: The Commissioner may, after affording the employer or successor firm notice and an opportunity for a hearing in accordance with the provisions of the “Administrative Procedure Act”. P.L. 1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.), issue a written determination directing and appropriate agency to suspend any one or more licenses that are held by the employer or successor firm, for a period of time determined by the Commissioner.

Minimum Wage - July 2009
Effective July 24, 2009 the minimum wage in the state of New Jersey will increase from $7.15 per hour to $7.25 per hour.

Family Leave Insurance - December 2008
Family Leave Insurance is a program that provides up to six (6) weeks of benefits to covered individuals to care for designated family members incapable of self-care or to bond with a newborn or newly adopted child. The program will be administered by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Temporary Disability Insurance. Benefit claims can be filed starting July 1, 2009. Workers whose employment is covered under the New Jersey Unemployment Compensation Law are covered for FLI, including governmental entities. Contributions made by covered employees through payroll deductions will fund the program. Payroll deductions will begin in January 2009 and covered employees will contribute at the rate of .09% of the taxable wage base. In 2009 the wage base is $28,900 and the maximum contribution will be $26.01. The taxable wage base changes each year.
